Brexit news – Facebook privacy

Ahead of the UK leaving the EU, Facebook has decided it will shift its UK users into an agreement with the companies corporate headquarter in Cali
What does this mean for privacy laws?
Well, Facebook has mentioned there won’t be any change to privacy controls for UK users
But it could mean European privacy laws are now out of reach
As it currently stands, all UK FB users are governed by agreements with Irish FB headquarters
The legal relationship is now totally shifting, coming to effect in 2021
From what we’ve seen so far, UK users should still be governed by UK privacy laws, which essentially mirrors GDPR (which is EU regulation)
I’m sure we all know by now that GDPR is super strict. There are concerns that the UK could shift to having more lenient protection, like in the US
whatever happens, it’s something to keep an eye on
